Urging the Governor to Create a Commission

Boston, Massachusetts Dec, 4th, 2024- Representatives of the Massachusetts Warheads to Windmills Coalition delivered a letter with Senator Jo Comerford to Governor Healey calling on her to establish a nuclear weapons and climate commission to lead Massachusetts into a safer and more sustainable future.

The Massachusetts coalition has been steadily and actively pushing for the creation of this commission in the State House for the past 6 years.  They visited on the 4th to ask Governor Healey to get moving on this urgent issue that affects all citizens of Massachusetts.  The Governor could create the commission tomorrow by Executive Order and call it a Governor’s Advisory Committee.

Nuclear weapons are an incredibly dangerous and wasteful resource sink that take resources – human and financial – away from climate mitigation and green technology innovations. The commission is intended to research and advise an economic transition from the nuclear weapons industry to climate innovations to make the future as smooth and safe as possible for the people of Massachusetts. Massachusetts has a duty to protect and prepare its citizens, especially to maintain its status as a leader on climate issues.

The letter to the Governor has been signed by 27 Massachusetts based organizations, 4 faith leaders, and 9 elected officials.  The list includes MA Congressman Jim McGovern who is a staunch supporter of the commission and efforts to eliminate the danger of nuclear weapons.

Act now to send a letter to Governor Healey urging her on this.

Write to Governor Healey Now!
