Virtual Book Talk – July 23

Join us July 23rd, at 7pm EDT for a virtual book talk for the new Nuclear Abolition: A Scenario hosted by Massachusetts Peace Action!

Timmon Wallis will discuss his new book Nuclear Abolition: A Scenario. While Annie Jacobsen based her 2024 bestseller, Nuclear War: A Scenario on numerous interviews with generals, Pentagon war planners and other nuclear weapons experts, Wallis bases his scenario on interviews with peace activists and campaigners from across the country and around the world. And while Jacobsen describes, second by second, how a single nuclear weapon could end up destroying civilization over a period of 72 minutes, Wallis lays out a pathway, already in progress, that could move the Doomsday Clock second by second further away from midnight, leading ultimately to the total elimination of nuclear weapons before it’s too late.

Timmon Wallis is Executive Director of NuclearBan.US, based in Northampton, MA. He was born in Cambridge, MA, and returned to his home state in 2017, after spending most of his life in the UK (plus several years in Belgium, Sri Lanka, South Sudan and a number of other countries). Wallis holds a PhD in Peace Studies and has been a nuclear disarmament activist for much of his life. His 2016 book, Disarming the Nuclear Argument, contributed to the negotiations for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, for which the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize.

You can request the book from your local bookstore or library, or order online through your favorite online retailers! We suggest bookshop.org, or direct from the printer!
