Why Chevron?
Climate Crimes
Chevron is one of the largest Fossil Fuel Companies in the world. It ranks first for most cumulative climate pollution in history among all investor-owned fossil fuel companies. Despite greenwashing claims of their climate resilience efforts, Chevron’s greenhouse gas emissions have steadily risen.
On top of green house gas pollution, Chevron has been responsible for environmental destruction including the deliberate dumping of 16 billion gallons of toxic wastewater into Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest between 1964 and 1992.
War Crimes
Chevron is the largest producer of natural gas for Israel and Israeli military operations. Control over the supply of this electricity across the occupied Palestinian territory is used as a tool of subjugation and collective punishment in Israel’s apartheid regime. Chevron is directly complicit in, and profits from the apartheid, exploitation, and genocide of the Palestinian people.
Political Influence
Chevron spent nearly 8 million dollars on lobbying Congress in 2023, largely on tax, energy, and foreign relations issues. Their lobbying efforts are cited as one of the main obstacles to passing comprehensive climate legislation on Capitol Hill.
