This civil society society side event occurs in the margins of the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. As states parties from around the world gather to work on this incredible treaty, members of the united states congress will stand in solidarity, introducing the Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Conversion Act of 2025. Members of Congress will share messages of support for the work of the TPNW from Washington DC. TPNW activists will respond to the launch of this bill and discuss strategy for building this movement in the US Congress.

This webinar will livestream from the side event hosted by the Permanent Missions of Tuvalu and Vanuatu, with civil society support from the Warheads to Windmills Coalition and the Fossil Fuel Treaty Initiative.
As governments gather for the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (3MSP), this special briefing will explore the urgent need for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, a proposal currently spearheaded by 16 nation-states and the valuable lessons that can be drawn from the TPNW process.
Hosted in NYC for UN Missions and live-streamed for policymakers globally, the event will provide insights into how countries successfully negotiated the TPNW—transforming a bold vision to ban nuclear weapons into a legally binding agreement—and how similar strategies could support efforts to manage a global just transition away from fossil fuels in line with climate science and justice.
