Congress to Speak on Nuclear Weapons

There will be a Special Order Hour in Congress tomorrow, November 13th, on the need to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons from all countries, in line with the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. It will be held after voting ends on Wednesday, November 13th. Due to the nature of congressional votes it is difficult to say an exact time but it could begin as early as 2pm Eastern Time. The Special Order Hour will be a chance for representatives to speak into the record about the existential threat of nuclear weapons, the resources wasted on them, and the need to negotiate their elimination worldwide.

Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts is sponsoring this event. McGovern is the sponsor of H.Res 77, the resolution calling on the US to step back from the brink of nuclear war, and an Original Cosponsor of H.R. 2775, the Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Conversion Act. McGovern is the only U.S. representative to have observed a meeting for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. He will be joined in the hour with speeches from Rep. John Garamendi (CA-8), Rep. Don Beyer, Jr. (VA-8), Rep. Dina Titus (NV-1), Rep. Chellie Pingree (ME-1), Rep Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), and Rep. Delia Ramirez (IL-3). Several other members hope to join if their schedules allow.

You can watch the Special Order Hour on C-Span. Again, please note that the timing is not certain so keep your eye on C-Span for the end of voting.

You can also join us for a Special Order Hour Watch Party! We will open the zoom around 2pm ET for those interested in having a live conversation alongside this event.
